On this special night, over 30 of Rotterdam’s museums, art galleries and cultural centres open their doors at night, allowing ticket-holding visitors to explore them after hours. This very special night out is a great way to take your time and see the city’s cultural highlights all on one ticket. Did you know the Rotterdam Marathon has been rated one of the fastest in the world? This huge event attracts thousands of runners from professional to amateur, all hoping to beat their personal best. The vertical and very flat track allows for a very fast race and enables many records to be broken every year. 900,000 spectators gather to cheer every single marathon competitor so even if this is your first ever attempt, you can get the feel of what its like to be cheered on like a champion athlete. They also offer shorter options like the ¼ or ½ marathon if they suit you better.
King’s day and its warm-up concert, Night of Orange, is the most exciting time to be in Rotterdam. The two-day event celebrates the King’s birthday and is absolutely full of music, dancing and people dressed in orange, the national colour of The Netherlands. Clubs and bars have special celebratory events on, there is a huge indoor concert and festivals and markets pop up around the city. It’s truly a spectacular sight! Book your accommodation well in advance for this as it’s one of the busiest times of the year for tourists.
Each year on 5th May, we commemorate the end of the second world war (which devastated Rotterdam, leaving it severely damaged) and celebrate freedom in general with our Liberation Day festivities. We have a street festival with many well-known acts performing, all of our shops, museums and attractions are open, and the Rotterdam Funfair is ready to help you enjoy this very special day. The festival takes place in the park facing the Euromast and goes on from 1pm-11pm.
